Mid Thames Trophy September 2004

On Saturday 11 September 2004 it is time for the Mid Thames Trophy inter-club and fun event again. It was re-scheduled from the 1 May following abandonment due to high current and little wind.

Come and help your club do even better this year; we have been 2nd for the last 3 years. We are allowed to have up to 10 starters so it is open to every one. Even if someone only does one race if they are in the top 4 Aquarius boats for that race they will have helped the club.

The event is for Aquarius, Littleton, Desborough, Staines, and Hampton Sailing Clubs; this year it is being hosted by Staines Sailing Club, 105 Chertsey Lane, Staines, Middx, TW18 3LQ. Tel 01784 455887. The river is a similar width to us running North South.

The club is on the A320, one mile from Thorpe Park, on the right-hand side of Chertsey Lane and one mile before Staines Bridge. Look out for the distinctive white pillars and the 'A' board (if put out).

SSC is 10 miles from AQSC and I think the easiest route from the the Lower Sunbury Road is to keep straight along to Chertsey Bridge and beyond (DON’T turn left up Weir Road at the traffic lights after the bridge; the next traffic lights are no right turn), through the town centre on the B375. After half a mile turn left on to the A320 dual carriageway and at the roundabout go right round to come back towards Thorpe Park and Staines.

MS Autoroute directions make it seem much more complicated than it is and Staines is a town to be avoided.

Boats can be left at the SSC before hand but for boat park details contact Richard Cannon on 01932 786636 .

There will be a briefing at 10:30am and a morning handicap race starting at 11:00am. After lunch there will be 2 more races, and then tea and prize giving around 4:30pm. All three races count with the the top 4 boats of each club in each race counting for the trophy. Two handed boats being sailed single handed should be having their handicap reduced by around 42 (Equivalent to 4.2 on AQSC club handicaps).
