VISIT TO BEWL VALLEY SAILING CLUB
Saturday 24th to Monday 26th August 2013 (bank holiday), with camping
Normally we visit Bewl Water on the August Bank Holiday Monday; this year BVSC are holding an Open Regatta on Sunday and we can go on the Saturday and stay to the Monday.
BVSC have a Youth Regatta on Saturday and we can cruise, an Open Regatta on Sunday and family sailing on Monday; the regatta entry fee is £10 for single handers and £20 for two handers. Camping is in a large field near the club and car park. Mike Hendra will have his caravan as an Aquarius base; last year it worked extremely well.
This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy sailing on a large expanse of water in good winds with no current. Don’t be put off if you haven’t a boat because we will be taking some club boats and members will need crews. New members will have a great experience.
With a south west wind you can sail nearly 3 miles without tacking; very different from the river. There are some very pleasant walks and nature reserves for those who don’t wish to sail.
Bewl Water is a beautiful 900 Acre reservoir over three miles long in the natural surroundings of the Kent countryside. Apart from a sailing club with 1200 boats there is fishing, a nature reserve, nature trails, walks and a very well equipped children's play area. This is the largest bit of water in South East England just past Lamberhurst on the A21 Hastings road, post code TN3 8JH; about one hour travel from the A3 Kingston By-
The club has a good galley for food and there are local pubs for evening food.
On Saturday there may be a day sailing fee. The Sunday Regatta entry fee is £5 per person.

Bring plenty of clothing, conditions can change very quickly and you often need to wade into the water to launch or come ashore; shorts can be good.
