VISIT TO BEWL VALLEY SAILING CLUB
Saturday 24th to Monday 26th August 2013 (bank holiday), with camping

Bewl Reservoir (only 2 small dams) is a huge (3 miles long) body of water in Kent that offers the kind of open water sailing not able to be enjoyed in Aquarius' restricted reach of the river. As a result just sailing recreationally offers a very different sailing experience from that normally available to us and the racing experience is also very different.

Bewl is on the A21Belw Water arial view Hastings Road at Lamberhurst; about 1 hour from the Kingston bypass. Aquarius members usually take a variety of boats along and members mix and match boats and crews to spread and share the fun.

All club members are invited to come to enjoy the Kent countryside, the sailing and the weekend. Bird watching, cycling, sailing, walking, relaxing and socialising are all part of the activities we can enjoy.  Sailing is not compulsory but it would be a shame to miss the experience.

The Bewl Valley Sailing Club Regatta takes place over the Summer Bank Holiday Weekend, Saturday 23 - Monday 25 August. On the Saturday there is a Youth Regatta, Sunday an Open Regatta, and Monday family sailing. Saturday is usually the day for travelling and a social sail in the afternoon, Sunday is the Open Regatta in which members are able to participate. Monday is usually an early sail, decamp and departure although there is no deadline for leaving the campsite.

Bewl Valley Sailing Club offers a very nice unpowered campsite with toilet and shower facilities not far away in their clubhouse. They also have a restaurant that is open for lunch, and snacks etc at other times. Next door is the Bewl Aquatic Centre which also offers refreshments. There are several decent pubs close by for those who wish to eat out.

Mike and Jean will be taking their caravan and it will again serve as a focal point for attendees, offering a clubhouse atmosphere and shelter. They will travel out on Friday and back on Tuesday giving a base for Aquarius Club members on arrival and departure. Basic camping equipment, a tent and bedding, is a necessary requirement although there is some that may be borrowed and there is local accommodation .

The likely cost is a £20 (£10.00 single hander, juniors under 18 half price) regatta entry fee for those participating on Sunday.

If you wish to join the fun for the weekend or just a day BOOK YOUR PLACE WITH RICHARD CANNON (01932 786636) or JEAN MARACCHI (020 8337 1568) as soon as possible to assure your place. We also need volunteers to transport boats to ensure a successful weekend. Please help!
