Twilight Cruise To The Magpie 24 June 2009

Nineteen members with 3 Lasers, a Bosun, a Skipper, a sailing cruiser and 3 motor cruisers had perfect conditions for the the evening cruise up stream to have dinner at the Magpie. It was fine and warm with a remarkably steady (very unusual) force 2 to 3 wind.

The fleet left Aquarius soon after 18:30 and the Lasers only took 15 minutes to reach the Magpie. The dinghies and 2 of the motor cruisers were able to moor at the Magpie and the rest moored a bit further upstream. It took Dave Jennings longer to moor his cruiser than sail up because his fenders weren’t big enough to fend him off the unfriendly concrete; fortunately Don Barnett lent him a large fender.

The food was much better than last year and they only ran out of peas.

The Lasers only took 25 minutes to sail back although it was much slower in Dave’s sailing cruiser and a tow was accepted half way back so we would arrived before it was dark.

We finished the evening with drinks and coffee at the club and didn’t leave until nearly midnight.

The general opinion was that it was one of the most enjoyable sail members had had at the club and it was a very successful event.
