BEWL WATER

AQSC AWAY VISIT AND SIGNET OPEN MEETING

AUGUST BANK HOLIDAY 2000

Bewl Water, 11kb

Bewl Water is a beautiful 900 Acre reservoir three miles long in the natural surroundings of the Kent countryside. Apart from a sailing club with 1200 boats there is fishing, a nature reserve, nature trails, walks and a very well equipped children's play area. This is the largest bit of water in South East England just past Lamberhurst on the A21 Hastings road; about one hour travel from the Kingston By-pass.

An away weekend at the Bewl Water Sailing Club is scheduled for the August Bank Holiday, August 26-28 2000. The Sunday is also a Signet Open Meeting; if there are enough boats Signets will have their own start else they will start with the slow handicapfleet. SCOA members are also welcome for all three days.

Camping adjacent to the club is available and there is a camp site about one mile up the road, on the right opposite the Happy Eater, which also does bed and breakfast. It is F Morgan, Cedar Gables, telephone 01892 890566. The club does the usual snacks and there are good local pubs for evening food.

The August Bank Holiday is their Regatta event, which we join. There is no racing on Saturday (board sailing) but we can cruise and there are some very pleasant walks and nature reserves. There are usually two or three races on Sunday and Monday with the first start at 11:00.

In the past the race fee has been about £6 for the two days racing with no extra day sailing or temporary membership charge. There are starts for many classes including both slow and fast handicap. Although the Club has about 1200 boats there are only about 50 boats out and the individual starts are small; they seem to appreciate our extra numbers.

The regatta is our ticket for sailing at Bewl, normally there isn't visitor's day sailing, and I urge you enter the racing and make some starts even if you don't take it too seriously

There is a Bewl leaflet on the club notice board.

See me, ring me, or E-mail me if you have any queries and I would be interested in knowing of those intending to go.
