Sunday 17 September - Aquarius Sailing Club 75th anniversary.
The Aquarius Sailing Club was formed on 28th April 1948 by Lt Col E.W Mackenzie, Sandy Sanderson and Mac McCoy all employees of the Metropolitan Water Board. All Metropolitan Water Board clubs were appropriately named Aquarius. For newer members John Botterill’s 2008 history of the club can be found here.
On Sunday 17th September we will be inviting all current and former members to celebratie our 75th anniversary. All the club boats will be on the water and we are asking all members to put their boats on the water suitably decorated. The club will be decorated and there will be a display covering the first 75 years of the club.
Starting at 12 noon there will be 3 races for the 75th Anniversary Cup.
Our aim is also to get as many boats as possible on the water and also to give those who have not sailed for a while a sail in a dinghy or ride on the patrol boat.
At 15:00 there will be a special buffet followed by “The Cake” and a toast to the club.
The bar will be open into the evening and we hope to have some of the boats illuminated.
We intend to make this a memorable day and hope that you can join us.

Having considered the three alternative venues we are returning to the Weir Hotel just a few hundred yards above Sunbury Lock. Menu. The evening usually ends with members back for a final drink on our quarterdeck, leaning over the balcony to spot the intrepid conjuring up forward motion from near zero wind.  This time the forecast is <5% chance of rain, temperatures falling from 24 to 20 centigrade, and winds 7mph WSW, so we should avoid a mercy tow after all.

Saturday 18 March  All members are invited to the 2023 Start of Season Party in the club house from 19:00. A FREE cold buffet will be provided. We have a guest speaker, Mr John Heath, who will be giving an illustrated talk on “Building Ships for the Movies”; John came to the club in 2000 and his presentation was fascinating, story on the talk in 2000.

12 March  Ahoy me hearties! Unknown to most of you, a secret few of us have been braving the challenges of winter and enjoying tea at AQSC. Nowhere else in the known world was it possible to get tea and cake in a million pound venue for 50p and sadly that is no more as Sunday tea is now £1.00. This quaint practice has been 50p so long only a hand full of members can remember when it's price was last increased. To celebrate its passing Jean volunteered to make tomorrow a special day and bake the cakes for tea. Carol Kirkwood promised some slightly warmer weather, possibly with a rare ray of sunshine, so why not come down and join us for "Tears in the Teacup" tomorrow at three. Cheers! Mike.

Keep an eye out for separate emails with details of:
