For the first time in three years Oktoberfest at AQSC became a reality although for a while things hung in the balance because I had booked a week in Greece that meant we were away on the scheduled date. Fortunately Jean had the details of the last event and some archive research brought forth recipes etc and a new date was found.

Leading up to the date Jean was suffering from acute asthma and on the Sunday before the event I fell over backwards so things were not going well. Fortunately Jean had Dianna Carpenter, Eiko Thompson and me as the culinary team whilst Rodger organised the bar and drinks with Peter Carpenter and Graham in close support so it was the team that won the day.

On Saturday night we had thirty members present and even though we ran a little off script our guests seemed to enjoy themselves so in the end all the hard work paid off.

Oktoberfest 2022 - Mike Hendra

For Jean and I it was a satisfying event so our special thanks goes to Jean’s team, Christine for help in the kitchen and Stuart with the gang who helped set out and clean up. Thanks guys! Also it is not much fun if you plan and work on an event that no one attends so thanks to all who came along.

On a slightly different note, in the thanks etc the Bar person is often overlooked for praise and the job can be one of the last to be finished with the necessary washing and drying of glasses. It would be very helpful if members would please refrain from keeping almost empty glasses on their table until home time and if they would bring their empties back to the bar when they are finished. Thank you!
