27Mar2002 23 March 2002 - AQSC Start of Season Party

The 2002 sailing season kicked off on Saturday night with the traditional start of season party in the clubhouse.

Some fifty members attended and the evening started with a video called 'The Maiden Voyage'.

On May 28, 1990 the female crew of the 58 foot yacht Maiden, skippered by Tracy Edwards, made history when it sailed across the finishing line of the Whitbread Round the World Race. The video was taken by crew members and documented the three year struggle to get Maiden to the start line in 1989 and the triumphs and traumas of her crews nine-month long 33,000 mile race around the world.

Following this a buffet supper was served, courtesy of Joan Bray. To just say this was 'very nice' would be a gross understatement … it was great ! and judging by the rate it vanished off the tables everybody else thought so too.

The evening ended with desserts and coffee and a lot of very congenial conversation about the coming season … which incidentally commences with the Easter Egg races next Sunday 31 March. See you all there !
