22Dec2001 Notes on the AGM, the Sailing Report and Prize List have been added.

9Dec2001The race results have been updated with the Trophy winners for 2001.

On 8Dec2001 at 8 pm. in the clubhouse there is the AQSC AGM, prize giving, end of season party and refreshments. Please support this important event. After 4 years in the post of Commodore Rodger Wheeler is standing down and we will be electing a replacement; are there any volunteers amongst you?

18Nov2001 Although there was a very light ENE wind there was a good entry of 10 boats for the last race day of the season; the end of season Race Results are on line.

Nine AQSC and ST/FW boats visited Bewl Water for the August Bank Holiday Meeting. There were some extreme weather conditions. More

On 25-27Aug2001 there is an AQSC away bank holiday and SigneT Open Meeting at Bewl Water. Unfortunately camping is not available at the sailing club.

18Aug2001 No one turned up for the trip to Sunbury Regatta, except Robert Britton who needed a ferry from the other side of the river; perhaps the very wet evening discouraged members from going in an open boat.

On 18Aug2001 the Aquarius Safety boat will leave the club at 20:00 hrs to take members to watch the Sunbury Amateur Regatta illuminated sail past and Fireworks display at 21:00 hrs. If there are too many for the safety boat priority will be given to those arriving first (there can only be one trip). Note the date in the AQSC printed program is wrong.

Richard Cannon and Robert Britton, in ST368, won the SigneT National Championships at Brightlingsea, Essex. Some races were extremly windy .

The weather was poor for the Aquarius Regatta and Jazz/BBQ on Sat 7Jul, little wind and wet at times, although the food and Jazz band were very good. Sunday was much better. Results

On 1Jul01 The Rudder Stock from the Club Topper fell in the river and was lost. Fortunately it was recovered later in the week. More

Eight Aquarius boats supported the Hampton SC Regatta on 23-24 June. Rodger Wheeler crewed by Fin Gloyn in the Club Graduate won the Graduate class and Richard Cannon crewed by Bob Gloyn in ST368 won the Handicap Class. Results. More Richard. John.

3Jun2001 AQSC members did very well at the Paxton Signet Open Meeting coming 1st and 2nd on both days. Mike Baker and Keith Hatton in ST369 won the Saturday. Richard Cannon and Robert Britton in ST368 won the Sunday.

29May2001 Bewl Water came up trumps again with 3 superb days of hot fine weather and a 10-15 knt SW wind for the late Spring Holiday visit. AQSC members excelled on the Monday by taking 2nd, 3rd and 4th places in the all comers race series. More Results.

The AQSC Jazz night is on Saturday 7July and the Regatta is on 7-8July. Come along for a great weekend. More

On 26-28 May 2001 there is an away visit to Bewl Water. F & M hasn't stopped this visit but the wet weather has prevented camping at the sailing club. More

20May2001 Six boats make it to Sunbury Lock. More.

The Aquarius Sailing Club Open Weekend on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May was very fortunate to have excellent weather with a steady 5 -10 knot E breeze; ideal for taking out people who had never sailed before. More.

6May2001 At last we have raced; not on the river but at Littleton SC for the Mid-Thames Trophy in super 10-15knt winds. There was an excellent turn out of 8 boats from AQSC. Littleton SC helm dominated the event but AQSC did extremely well to take 2nd Club place.

The Aquarius Sailing Club Open Weekend is on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 May. The Club Mapwelcomes all visitors from 10am to 5pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to be taken out in a variety of sailing dinghies and refreshments will be available. No sailing experience is needed; just have some soft shoes and it is sensible to have a spare change of clothes as an insurance against getting wet.

On Sunday 6 May we are invited to the Mid-Thames Trophy event. NOTE last minute change of venue to Littleton SC (Map), on a gravel pit, due to the river conditions at Desborough SC. Come and have fun and help your club win the trophy.

Join us on Saturday 28 April to relive a Victorian evening of parlour games brought up to date by Bob and Janet. Starting at 8:00 pm and food available for £1.

29Apr2001 Unfortunately the heavy rain at the end of the week ensured we were unable to sail yet again.
Bob and Jane entertained us to an excellent Saturday evening of Victorian parlour games; mainly varients on light hearted quizes. Any accuracy of scores was purely coincidental. A good spread of food was prepared by Janet, Joan, Madeline and Diana.

22Apr2001 At last the current has abated and there was a very gusty SE wind making sailing possible. BUT a number of our regulars were away and only Keith Hatton and Brian Clements were sailing; Brian capsized before the race start, without a wetsuit, and decided not to risk getting wet again. Mike Baker came down and after an enjoyable short sail decided to come in before he had an invitable capsize. It was decided not to start a race.

15Apr2001 We should have sailed for Easter Eggs today but we still have been unable to sail this season due to the high current. At least the East slipway is almost uncovered; about the lowest the water has been since October. We just need a good Easterly wind.
Our race officer John Money treated us to Hot X buns as compensation, and Tony and Brenda Allen tidied up the flower bed on the bank, including cutting some steps to make it easier to reach.
The kitchen has been improved with a larger capacity water heater obtained and fitted by Nigel knowles, and a new dish washer obtained and fitted by Keith Hatton. Lauri Bridges revised the wiring to the repositioned refrigerator.

03Apr2001 Members must have read their newsletter or E-mail as in spite of the date change to 24 March the Start of Season Party was well attended.

01Apr2001 We should have started sailing today, but as the river was expected to be to fast to enable sailing in the forecast winds a working day was planned. There was excellent support; 15 joined in and many tasks were completed. The real star was Diana Carpenter who provided every one with a lunch of delicious jacket potatoes and bolognaise. There was a large junior club, about 14, who managed to get afloat in kayaks, play darts, bar billiards, darts, and cards.

The Web site has been changed by putting the Contents Links across the top to leave the left side free for items like the Newsletter and Race Result contents. A background colour has been added to the pages. Comments please to the webmaster.

24Mar2001 An E-mail from Australia has alerted me to a change in the date of the Sunbury Regatta. Please note that the date in the printed programme has changed from 11 to 18 August.
The online Spring Newsletter has been revised to minimise the effect of display problems on some computers.

12Mar2001 IMPORTANT The date for the start of Season party has advanced a week from the 31 Mar (as published in the 2000 programme) to the 24 Mar 2001. The 2001 program is now available on the site.

6Mar2001 The foot & mouth epidemic is having a bad effect on sailing clubs; over 30 clubs have stopped operations including Queen Mary, Datchet and Bewl Water.
A good number of AQSC members enjoyed the Sailboat & Windsurf Show at Alexandra Palace. Keith Hatton's Signet ST858 was displayed on the Signet stand after a thorough winter overhaul and with a new set of sails.

01Mar2001 Around 22 members attended the very enjoyable 'Murder' weekend at Sisswood House Hotel in Lower Beeding.
The Trophy records under race results have been updated to include the 2000 results.

19Feb2001 Due to the record rainfall the river has been flowing very fast all this year and has been over the bank again recently. It will need a dry period for the current to fall before we start sailing at the start of April.

13Feb2001 At last the Autumn 2000 newsletter is on the site, sorry for the delay.

11Feb2001 The Bar Duty Rota for 2001 is now available under Duties.

The Treasure Island social scheduled for Saturday 24 February at the Club will not take place; it has been replaced by a Murder event, away from the Club, with tickets bought in advance from Madeline.
