Aquarius SC Autumn2000 Newsletter

Thanks to much work by Charles Dennis (and courtesy of a 99.5% grant from the Millennium Festival Awards for All Programme) Aquarius will soon be the owners of a brand new Pico sailing dinghy with full rig, launching trolley and cover. The Pico is easily righted and is ideal for two youngsters, novices or experienced sailors to have fun.
The Richmond Unitary Development Plan Inquiry, which will determine the use of the Hampton Water Works site for at least the next ten years, will have closed by the time you read this. I must thank Eric Bridgewater, Charles and Mary Dennis, Bob Parsloe and Peter Heath for their efforts. We have been successful in obtaining significant changes to the plan for the benefit of the whole community. The inspector will produce his final report next year.
It may only be October with several weeks sailing to go, but this will be my last opportunity to remind everyone to check that their boats and covers are secure against the winter storms. And remember to leave the BUNGS OUT so that any water can drain easily.
Club Dinner — yes the annual dinner is only weeks away with the same excellent formula as last year. First come first served so book now if you don’t want to be disappointed. See you there

COMMODORE’S REPORT - Rodger Wheeler

Not a drip came through the roof during the recent ‘Monsoons’ — Just in time Keith Hatton aided by Richard and Martin Cannon have re-roofed the entire western end of the Clubhouse. And for good measue Richard also treated the end panelling with Timbadura for a lasting finish.
A seat and railings have also appeared on the upper patio and I think we shall soon be renamed the Aquarius Sailing and Gardening Club.
In George Bray’s words “best bib and tucker” was the order of the day for the RYA 125th AGM and annual reception at the Commonwealth Institute. George and Joan Bray, and Linda and Rodger Wheeler were invited as representative of sailing clubs in the Thames Valley Region and were introduced to the Princess Royal. The Princess takes her job as President of the RYA seriously and chaired the RYA AGM that followed. Naturally this included a presentation by the Olympic Team Captain after the success in Sydney.
