A ROYAL APPOINTMENT - George Bray

Rodger & Linda Wheeler and George & Joan Bray were invited to represent Aquarius and the Thames Valley Region of the RYA at a reception, on Thursday 12 October, attended by her Royal Highness Princess Anne.
Approximately 150 people attended the afternoon reception and the Princess greeted each person individually. We were asked the position of our club and the types of boats we sail, and how the other river traffic affects us.
Following this we attended the RYA Annual General Meeting which was chaired by the Princess. This wasn’t as onerous as it sounds due to the the fact that it included a presentation by the manager of the Sydney Olympic Yachting Team giving an insight into the preparation for the events and the atmosphere in Sydney. The clear message from the meeting was that the team did brilliantly, as we all know, and all clubs should build on their achievements.
Sailing is now THE GOLDEN SPORT.
