Start of Season Party

The Start of Season Party on 21 March was well attended as is usual for this event and a good social atmosphere ensued from the outset.

The Commodore, Tony Hopkins, gave a warm welcome to the new members and a brief outline of events for this year's sailing season, also mentioning the next working party which he invited everyone to attend.

This was followed by a buffet prepared by Nigel, George & Joan Bray, Pat Irving. Thanks also to Anne Knowles and Stuart who did a lot of the clearing away afterwards.

Once everyone had eaten Nigel announced a table quiz which groups of around 5 to 6 members joined forces to participate in. This was a great success, very humorous and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

Front Gate
(IMPORTANT … Please Note)

We hope you’re not having too much trouble with the new club entry arrangements at the outer green gates.

These measures were implemented by Thames Water in an effort to stop the 'fly tipping' that had been occurring towards the end of last year and the beginning of 2009. This vandalism is very expensive to clear up and in mid April Thames Water took the decision to lock the gates .

Please ensure that you relock these gates after entry because if 'fly tipping' was to happen again as a result of members leaving the gates open, AQSC could be held liable for the cost of clearing up.

Fly tipping is still a problem and in the last few weeks a load was dumped overflowing into the road opposite the pipe yard (west end of Sunny Side reservoir). Richmond council cleared it and another load immediately appeared.
