Start of Season Party

Start of Season Party 20 March

This years party hosted a guest speaker Mr. Gordon Tripp who gave an illustrated talk on Admiral Robert Fitzroy who was the Captain of HMS Beagle (Darwin’s ship) and a pioneering meteorologist. Things got underway at 7:30pm with the bar doing brisk business.

At 8:00pm. sharp the members were invited to be seated, Tony Hopkins formally introduced the guest speaker and then Gordon started his presentation which proved to be totally absorbing. I’m not going into the detail of the presentation, if you were there you don’t need it and if you weren’t, well, you missed a great evening. Needless to say it was very well received and provoked a lot of questions at the end.

Following the lecture an excellent buffet supper was served by Diana and her helpers which was much appreciated. Next stop the commencement of the spring series races on the 28th.
