Generally we have had very good season with excellent support and good sailing; our young members have been very active.
Normally we have one Open day on a Saturday, this year we made it a two day event. This was just as well as the weather was very poor on Saturday, wet and very gusty wind. Sunday was much better and we had good attendance attendance. We obtained several new members.
Later in the year we supported the National Big Blue Go Boating weekend, effectively another two Open Days. It was extremely well attended with over 60 visitors and we had 17 boats on the water, probably the most for a very long time. We signed up a good number of new members; several of them came from Barry Jones as the initial contact.
With all our new members there has been a big demand for training, especially for junior members. Since the beginning of July there have been training sessions by Richard Cannon, helped by Brian Clements, on Wednesday afternoons from about 3:30pm. They have been kept extremely busy with there often being over 10 members at the club and boats on the water until 7:30pm.
The Regatta was another two day event. There was good sailing on Saturday and Sunday although it was rather gusty. We had excellent support on Sunday with 12 boats racing; the start line is getting very crowded. Sunday finished with a fun paddling relay race in a couple of Lasers which degenerated into 8 members on one Laser; surprisingly they didn’t capsize.
